Water damage can come from several different sources. Flooding, sewer, broken pipes, faulty appliances, or plumping can be a source of water damage. After the source has been identified the type of category the water is can be determined. There are 3 types of water damage, and each will require a specific type of cleaning. Listed below are the 3 types of water damage:
Category 1-Clean Water – The least severe water damage comes from Category 1 water. This damage can be from broken pipes, sinks, bathtubs, and supply lines. The drying procedure is much easier in this category.
Category 2 – Grey Water – This includes water from appliances like toilets, washing machines, and sump pumps. All affected items should be removed and disinfected completely in this category.
Category 3 – Black water – This category of water damage is the most severe. Black water calls for immediate mitigation to reduce the risk of a serious health condition. The damaged items will need to be removed from the home and a thorough disinfection done to the home.
Safety during a water damage should be a top priority. Below are a few safety precautions to follow during a water damage:
Is it safe to stay in the house?
Electrical and "slip and fall" hazards are some of the most prevalent concerns.
Only do activities that are safe for you to perform.
Wet materials can be VERY heavy. Be careful!
